Air India SATS Airport Services (AISATS) has strengthened cargo operations at Ranchi Airport by achieving a milestone of handling more than 20,000 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo, underscoring the growing importance of the airport as a logistics gateway for eastern India. Building on the achievement, the company is targeting double-digit cargo growth in FY2026-27 through expanded services, operational efficiencies, and closer engagement with regional industries.
The milestone reflects increasing demand for air cargo services from Jharkhand and neighbouring states, driven by sectors such as pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, electronics, perishables, textiles, and e-commerce. Ranchi’s strategic location and improving air connectivity have enabled businesses to move time-sensitive shipments more efficiently to domestic and international markets.
AISATS attributed the growth to investments in cargo handling infrastructure, streamlined warehouse operations, faster cargo processing, and enhanced customer service. The company has also focused on improving turnaround times and adopting digital solutions to facilitate seamless cargo movement for airlines, freight forwarders, and exporters.
The cargo terminal at Ranchi plays a vital role in supporting the region’s industrial and agricultural economy by providing reliable logistics services for outbound and inbound shipments. Improved cargo handling capabilities have enabled local manufacturers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and exporters to access wider markets while reducing transit times.
Looking ahead, AISATS plans to expand cargo volumes through stronger partnerships with airlines, logistics providers, and businesses across the region. The company expects rising demand from e-commerce, temperature-sensitive cargo, express shipments, and high-value industrial products to drive sustained growth during FY2026-27.
The achievement aligns with India’s broader efforts to strengthen regional air cargo infrastructure under the National Logistics Policy and improve multimodal connectivity. As cargo demand continues to grow across Tier-II and Tier-III cities, Ranchi is expected to play an increasingly significant role in supporting trade, exports, and economic development in eastern India.
