Andhra Pradesh is pushing hard to achieve the goals of Vikasit Bharat 2047, with a focus on developing its maritime sector, said investment and infrastructure minister BC Janardhan Reddy. He urged the Union govt to support the completion of port-related infrastructure and requested the union ports, shipping and waterways minister Sarbananda Sonowal to grant a new greenfield port and shipbuilding unit in Bapatla district.
Speaking at a recent National Sagarmala Apex Committee meeting, Reddy highlighted India’s growth into a global maritime powerhouse under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
“We are working towards becoming one-trillion dollar economy through the launch of Swarna Andhra vision 2047 by developing Andhra Pradesh as a maritime hub. We have taken many crucial steps for the development of AP’s maritime sector under the leadership of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu,” said Janardhan Reddy.
Andhra Pradesh aims to become a maritime hub, with four greenfield ports being developed at a cost of Rs 17,000 crore. The state also plans to construct 10 fishing harbors with Rs 3,520 crore.
The minister emphasized the need for skilled workers in the maritime sector and requested Centre’s support for setting up skill development centers.
Andhra Pradesh is preparing the State Maritime Waterways Master Plan and has identified several projects for implementation.
He further requested the Centre to expedite the clearance of projects proposed by the Centre. State investment and infrastructure secretary Yuvraj, AP maritime board chairman Damacherla Satya, and maritime board CEO Praveen Aditya were present.
