Andhra Pradesh is accelerating the development of three major greenfield ports, with Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta and Machilipatnam on track for completion by the end of 2026, Infrastructure and Investments Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy said.
The three projects are being developed as part of the state’s broader strategy to strengthen its maritime infrastructure and expand its role as a logistics gateway on India’s east coast.
The projects are progressing at different stages. Earlier government updates indicated physical progress of about 78.5% at Ramayapatnam, 75.5% at Mulapeta and 57.8% at Machilipatnam, with all three targeting December 2026 completion.
Ramayapatnam Port in SPSR Nellore district, Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam district and Machilipatnam Port in Krishna district are expected to add substantial cargo-handling capacity and improve connectivity for industrial and mineral-producing regions.
The state has also approved ₹1,638.52 crore for land acquisition for the second-phase expansion of the three ports. This includes ₹851 crore for Ramayapatnam, ₹440.52 crore for Mulapeta and around ₹347 crore for Machilipatnam.
The projects are being supported by road and rail connectivity initiatives aimed at integrating the ports with regional industrial and logistics corridors. The government is also pursuing additional maritime projects, including the Kakinada Gateway Port and the proposed Dugarajapatnam shipbuilding cluster.
The expansion is part of Andhra Pradesh’s long-term maritime strategy, with the state targeting a significantly larger share of India’s port cargo and seeking to develop its coastline into a major logistics and industrial gateway.
