One of India’s oldest privately owned shipping companies, Apeejay Shipping, has been tied to the sale of the Oshima-built, 82,000 dwt kamsarmax ASL Uranus, offloaded by Agricore, an active Chinese owner who last week tapped Basile Aloy-led Ebe Shipping for the 12-year-old, Imabari-built El Grasso cape.

Apeejay Shipping is a seven-ship-strong bulker outfit with over 75 years of history and a conservative approach to ship ownership. The owner has stayed away from the sales and purchase arena for years until last year. Since then, it’s been busy, sending one ship to the breakers and offloading a 2002-built panamax while purchasing a 2005-built panamax.

The owner belongs to the Apeejay Group of Companies, one of India’s oldest and largest business conglomerates. Its businesses include shipping, hospitality, real estate, tea plantations, retail, logistics, and more.
