Turkey’s largest boxship operator, Arkas, has signed a contract in China for four ships that will take its fleet past the 100,000 slot mark.

The 4,300 teu sister ships will be built at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard and are costing $240m in total. The vessels will deliver in the first half of 2028, another sign of just how busy Chinese shipyards are today.

Arkas said the newbuilds would be deployed on new routes to the US and Africa when they deliver.

Arkas has been in existence since 1902. Alphaliner lists it with 36 boxships, ranking as the 30th largest liner in the world. The last time it ordered new ships was in 2018.
