A luxury cruise operator is planning to invest around ₹750–800 crore to expand river-cruise tourism across the Brahmaputra in Assam and the Ganga, supporting the development of India’s inland waterway tourism sector.

The proposed investment is expected to strengthen luxury river cruising and create new tourism experiences along some of India’s major waterways. The expansion could include additional cruise vessels and supporting infrastructure to serve growing demand for premium domestic and international tourism.

Assam’s Brahmaputra offers opportunities for cruise itineraries combining river journeys with wildlife, heritage and cultural attractions. The Ganga, meanwhile, connects several major tourist destinations and heritage centres, making it an important route for river-based tourism.

The investment also aligns with efforts to promote inland waterways as an alternative tourism and transport corridor. Improved terminals, passenger facilities and related infrastructure can support longer cruise itineraries and improve connectivity between destinations.

The planned expansion is expected to generate opportunities for local businesses and communities through tourism-related employment, hospitality, transportation and other services.

With growing interest in experiential and luxury travel, the proposed ₹750–800 crore investment could add capacity to India’s river-cruise sector and support the development of the Brahmaputra and Ganga as international river-tourism destinations.
