Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed says the import of chickpeas and oil has been approved ahead of Ramadan. After that, dates will also be imported.

The prices of essential commodities, including rice, pulse and chickpeas should not be increased, said the adviser on Wednesday (October 30).

Meanwhile, on October 9, Dr Salehuddin said that general inflation has almost declined by one percent officially.

He said despite the steady trend, it would take some time to reduce inflation further and thus bring respite among the livelihoods of people.

According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the general point-to-point inflation rate eased further last month as it reached 9.92% in September, down from 10.49% in August 2024, due to a downtrend in both food and non-food inflation.

The food inflation declined to 10.40% in September 2024, down from 11.36% in August 2024, while the non-food inflation rate in September fell further to 9.50%, down from 9.74% in August 2024.
