To address the persistent issue of crop loss due to inadequate storage facilities, the state government has initiated the ‘Bihar Godam Nirman Yojana‘. This project, also known as the ‘Bihar Warehouse Construction Yojana‘ and ‘Bihar Godam Subsidy Scheme‘, aims to bolster the spirits and financial stability of farmers by providing a secure location for the preservation of their harvests. By establishing a network of warehouses, the scheme directly targets the improvement of farmers’ livelihoods by ensuring their production can be stored safely and used as needed. This endeavor is backed by the Agriculture Department of Bihar, which acts as the chief coordinator, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural infrastructure.

For the fiscal year 2024-25, the scheme has marked the construction of 154 new warehouses, specifying 108 units with a capacity of 100 metric tons and 46 with a capacity of 200 metric tons. These facilities are to be erected on the farmers’ properties, with a substantial grant from the government to cover the construction costs. This investment underscores the policy’s inclusivity, as it offers financial assistance promptly within 15 days to general category applicants, while those from SC/ST categories receive their grants in two phases. The program adopts a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) approach to ensure transparency and efficiency in fund disbursement. Interested farmers are encouraged to apply through a dedicated mobile application or the online form, with the application window open from August 1 to August 31, 2024.
