Britain announced on Thursday the imposition of sanctions on five new ships and two additional shipping entities under its Russian sanctions regime.

Earlier in the month, Britain extended sanctions to 10 more ships within Russia’s so-called ‘shadow fleet,’ which allegedly employs illicit practices to skirt Western-imposed restrictions on Russian oil. This marks a continuing effort by the UK to counteract tactics used by Russia to avoid limitations and sustain its oil exports.

Russia has consistently dismissed Western efforts to curtail its oil exports, leading to an uptick in unregulated and uninsured tanker activities, as revealed over the past year.
