The Union Cabinet has approved the development of a four-lane highway connecting Barabanki and Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh, a move aimed at strengthening trade links between India and Nepal through the Rupaidiha land port.
The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity to the border, reducing travel time and logistics costs for cargo movement. By facilitating smoother transportation of goods, the highway will enhance efficiency in cross-border trade and support regional economic growth.
Rupaidiha, a key land port on the India–Nepal border, handles substantial volumes of bilateral trade. The upgraded road infrastructure is likely to ease congestion, improve supply chain reliability, and boost trade throughput at the border point.
Officials noted that the project aligns with the government’s broader focus on improving last-mile connectivity to major trade gateways. It is also expected to benefit local economies by creating jobs and promoting commercial activities along the corridor.
Once completed, the Barabanki–Bahraich highway will serve as a critical link in facilitating seamless trade between India and Nepal, further strengthening economic ties and regional integration.
