The Centre of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding (CEMS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata under the port’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to launch industry-focused skill development programmes aimed at enhancing employability in the logistics and maritime sectors.
The MoU, signed on August 4, 2026, will facilitate the commencement of Freight Forwarding Executive and Customs Documentation Executive training programmes for 25 unemployed youth from Kolkata. The initiative is designed to equip participants with practical, industry-oriented skills, preparing them for careers in freight forwarding, customs documentation, logistics, and the broader maritime industry.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Shri Chandan Chatterjee, Secretary, SPMP Kolkata, and Cdr. Gopi Krishna Sivvam, Chief Operating Officer, CEMS, along with officials from both organisations.
CEMS acknowledged the support and guidance of Shri Samrat Rahi, Deputy Chairman, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, for his leadership in promoting skill development through the CSR initiative.
The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of CEMS and SPMP Kolkata to strengthen workforce development by creating employment opportunities and building a skilled talent pool to support the growing requirements of India’s logistics and maritime sectors.
