Central Railway has launched a new automobile freight service from the Igatpuri goods shed, aimed at strengthening vehicle logistics and improving rail-based cargo movement. The initiative is designed to facilitate efficient transportation of automobiles from manufacturing hubs to key markets across the country.

The service will enable automakers and dealers to move vehicles in bulk via rail, reducing reliance on road transport and lowering logistics costs. It is also expected to ease highway congestion and contribute to more environmentally sustainable freight operations.

Located on a strategic rail route, the Igatpuri goods shed offers improved connectivity to major industrial and consumption centres. The new service is likely to benefit automobile manufacturers by ensuring faster transit times and more reliable delivery schedules.

Central Railway officials said the move aligns with broader efforts to enhance freight share in rail transport and promote multimodal logistics solutions. The initiative is expected to support the growing demand for efficient vehicle distribution across regions.
