Chennai Port Authority has achieved a new operational milestone by recording its highest-ever single-day Barytes loading of 46,000 metric tonnes (MT), surpassing the previous record set in 2022.

The record-breaking operation was executed by M/s BL Transport, which deployed its fleet of three 100-tonne Harbour Mobile Cranes to efficiently handle the dry bulk cargo. The achievement underscores the port’s growing capabilities in handling bulk commodities and reflects continued improvements in cargo handling efficiency.

Chennai Port Authority congratulated M/s BL Transport for its exceptional stevedoring performance and dedicated efforts in accomplishing the record. The port stated that the achievement highlights the strong collaboration between the port authority and its trade partners in delivering operational excellence and enhancing productivity.

The milestone also reinforces Chennai Port’s position as a preferred gateway for dry bulk cargo on India’s east coast.

To further encourage bulk cargo movement, Chennai Port Authority is promoting its NCCS 2026–27 Scheme, which offers wharfage concessions of up to 80% along with loyalty bonus incentives for eligible dry bulk cargo customers. The incentive scheme is aimed at attracting higher cargo volumes while strengthening the port’s competitiveness and customer value proposition.
