In a significant operational achievement, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) has successfully implemented an innovative cargo loading methodology that has substantially increased the carrying capacity of an ultra-large heavy lift (UHL) vessel transporting windmill blades.

The port introduced an extended deck arrangement using additional support beams, enabling the safe loading of 57 windmill blades, each measuring 81 metres in length. This marks a notable improvement over the 45 blades that have typically been loaded on similar vessels over the past four years.

The innovative approach also involved stacking the blades up to five tiers high, allowing for optimum utilization of available deck space while maintaining safety and stability throughout the loading operation.

By maximizing vessel capacity, the initiative is expected to improve operational efficiency, reduce logistics costs per shipment, and strengthen the port’s capability in handling oversized renewable energy cargo.

The successful execution highlights VOCPA’s continued focus on adopting innovative cargo handling practices and delivering efficient logistics solutions for project cargo. It also reinforces the port’s growing role in supporting India’s renewable energy sector through enhanced infrastructure and operational excellence.

The achievement underscores V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority’s commitment to smarter logistics, optimized vessel utilization, and sustainable maritime operations.
