Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a SATS company, has renewed a three-year cargo handling contract with China Eastern Airlines at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, strengthening the partnership as the carrier resumes its direct Shanghai–Stockholm service.
China Eastern restarted non-stop flights between Shanghai Pudong and Stockholm in June 2026 after a six-year hiatus. The airline currently operates three round trips a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and expects the route to generate more than 1,000 tonnes of cargo annually.
The agreement revives WFS’s earlier relationship with China Eastern in Sweden. WFS began handling the airline’s cargo operations in the country in 2018 and continued to work with China Eastern in Copenhagen during the Stockholm service’s absence.
WFS operates two cargo terminals at Stockholm Arlanda covering more than 18,000 square metres. Its facilities include GDP-certified pharmaceutical handling capabilities and road transport services, allowing the handler to support general and specialised cargo.
The renewed contract comes as direct air connectivity between Scandinavia and Asia expands. The Shanghai–Stockholm route is expected to support both passenger traffic and high-value cargo flows, providing faster links between Sweden and China’s major commercial hub.
WFS said the return of China Eastern to Stockholm strengthens its position at Arlanda, where it now handles cargo and provides trucking services for more than 20 international airlines and freight-forwarding customers.
