China shipowners are increasingly placing container vessel orders with domestic shipyards as demand for boxships continues to rise amid expanding global trade and fleet renewal requirements. Industry sources said local shipbuilders are benefiting from strong order activity driven by the need for modern, fuel-efficient and environmentally compliant vessels.

Chinese shipyards are reportedly securing a growing share of newbuilding contracts due to competitive pricing, large production capacity and advanced shipbuilding capabilities. The latest orders are expected to include a mix of feeder vessels and large container ships aimed at supporting regional and international trade routes.

Market analysts noted that rising demand for new boxships reflects continued growth in containerised trade, evolving fleet strategies and stricter environmental regulations across the maritime sector. Increased domestic ordering activity is also expected to strengthen China’s position as a leading global shipbuilding hub while supporting long-term expansion of its maritime industry.
