The Indian Maritime University (IMU) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CMA Ships India Pvt. Ltd., aimed at fostering deeper academic collaboration and strengthening industry engagement within the global maritime sector.

The MoU will enable the promotion of research and development, facilitate cadet recruitment, and provide onboard internship opportunities for IMU cadets on CMA CGM vessels. It further expands to include training programmes, joint seminars, and knowledge-sharing sessions in critical domains such as maritime law, marine insurance, and maritime informatics.

As part of this collaboration, IMU faculty members will gain access to specialized training programmes, shore-based management internships, and opportunities to participate in joint academic–industry initiatives. This will significantly enhance both the academic learning environment and practical exposure for students and faculty alike.

Speaking at the MoU signing, Malini Shankar, Vice Chancellor of the Indian Maritime University, remarked:

“This partnership with CMA Ships India Pvt. Ltd. is a pivotal step in bridging the gap between academia and the maritime industry. It will not only drive innovation but also prepare our students to meet the evolving challenges of global maritime operations with skill and confidence.”

This collaboration underscores IMU’s commitment to advancing industry–academia linkages, fostering innovative solutions to maritime challenges, and opening up enhanced career opportunities for its cadets and students.
