On Sunday in Sonbhadra, two wagons of a coal-laden freight train derailed, causing the engine to also go off the tracks. The incident created a stir among the power plant management. The derailment occurred around 11 a.m. near the Krishna Shila railway station in the Shaktinagar area. The train was transporting coal from NCL’s Khadia project to the Anpara power plant.

According to officials from the Anpara power plant, who rushed to the scene, the derailment was likely caused by soil erosion due to recent heavy rains. It is also suspected that negligence in track maintenance may have contributed to the incident. The derailment happened in the Bansi area of the Shaktinagar police station jurisdiction. The freight train had just been loaded with coal at the Coal Handling Plant (CHP) and was en route to the Anpara Thermal Power Plant when the accident occurred.
