Global container shipping capacity continued to expand in August, with CMA CGM and Ocean Network Express (ONE) among the major carriers receiving new vessels, while Wan Hai Lines added a further 86,200 TEU to its future orderbook, according to DynaLiners’ latest monthly data.
DynaLiners recorded 20 containership deliveries with combined capacity of 153,000 TEU during the latest reporting period. Of these, 11 vessels of 4,000 TEU or more accounted for 138,700 TEU, while nine smaller ships contributed another 14,300 TEU.
CMA CGM Leads New Capacity
CMA CGM received the two largest vessels in the latest delivery data. The 24,200-TEU CMA CGM Pantheon and 16,100-TEU CMA CGM Roi Arthur together added 40,300 TEU to the carrier’s fleet.
The deliveries reinforce CMA CGM’s aggressive fleet expansion. The carrier has been among the fastest-growing major container lines in 2026, supported by a substantial newbuilding programme.
ONE Adds 27,800 TEU
ONE also featured prominently in the latest delivery figures, taking delivery of the 13,900-TEU ONE Success and 13,900-TEU ONE Summit.
The two ships bring a combined 27,800 TEU of additional capacity, making ONE the second-largest contributor to the latest group of large containership deliveries after CMA CGM.
Other major deliveries included Evergreen’s 16,600-TEU Ever Even, Maersk’s 14,800-TEU BAL Athena, MSC’s 10,300-TEU MSC Maria Marilyn X, and Wan Hai’s 8,700-TEU Wan Hai 903.
Wan Hai Expands Orderbook
While new ships entered the global fleet, Wan Hai continued to build its future capacity. The Taiwanese carrier ordered seven 11,000-TEU ships and one 9,200-TEU vessel from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
The eight vessels represent 86,200 TEU of additional capacity, with deliveries scheduled for 2029 and 2030.
The new orders are part of a broader wave of containership investment spanning different vessel sizes. DynaLiners recorded 29 firm orders totalling 187,700 TEU, with a further eight option vessels potentially adding another 24,600 TEU.
Capacity Growth Continues
The latest figures underline the continuing expansion of the global containership fleet. Large carriers are adding new tonnage to support network growth and fleet renewal, while smaller operators are also ordering vessels across feeder and regional segments.
With deliveries continuing and substantial orderbooks still scheduled through the end of the decade, additional container capacity is expected to enter the market in the coming years, potentially influencing fleet deployment, charter demand and competitive dynamics across major trade lanes.
