Greek feeder containership owner Contships Logistics has secured two new charter agreements with CMA CGM and Ocean Network Express (ONE), strengthening its contracted revenue base as it prepares for an ambitious fleet renewal programme.

According to the company’s third-quarter earnings report, the Contship Sky has secured a charter extension with CMA CGM at a daily rate of $16,250 for a period of 11 to 13 months.

In a separate fixture, the Contship Way has been chartered to Ocean Network Express (ONE) for 21 to 24 months at $16,500 per day. The company did not disclose the commencement dates of either agreement.

The latest fixtures reflect Contships’ strategy of securing longer-term employment for its feeder fleet while gradually reducing exposure to older tonnage through vessel disposals.

During the first nine months of 2026, the company sold five containerships for gross proceeds of $59 million, bringing its owned fleet to 27 vessels as of the end of September.

Meanwhile, Contships is preparing for a significant expansion into newbuilding ownership. In October, the company signed a letter of intent with China’s Hubei Guangji Green Energy Shipbuilding for the construction of 10 firm 1,324 TEU containerships, with options for two additional batches of 10 vessels each.

If all options are exercised, the newbuilding programme could exceed the size of the company’s existing fleet, marking a major transformation of its fleet profile and long-term growth strategy.

Contships reported a contracted charter revenue backlog of $205.8 million as of its latest reporting reference date, taking subsequent developments into account.

The company is also evaluating financing alternatives for the proposed newbuildings, although no final financing arrangements have been concluded.

The twin charter agreements, combined with fleet disposals and the planned newbuilding programme, underline Contships’ strategy of strengthening revenue visibility while positioning its fleet for the next phase of growth in the feeder containership market.
