COSCO SHIPPING has strengthened its bulk shipping capabilities with the delivery and entry into service of GUO LIANG HAI, an 80,000 DWT multi-purpose grain carrier. The vessel is the sixth in a pioneering series that represents the world’s first 80,000 DWT vessel class purpose-built for grain transportation while offering extensive multi-cargo flexibility.
Designed to combine the efficiency of a conventional bulk carrier with the versatility of a multi-purpose vessel, GUO LIANG HAI is capable of transporting a wide range of cargoes beyond agricultural commodities. In addition to soybeans, maize and wheat, the vessel can carry dry bulk cargo, containers, wind turbine components, railway rolling stock, new energy vehicles (NEVs), and oversized industrial machinery.
Measuring nearly 230 metres in length, the vessel incorporates advanced digital management systems, energy-efficient low-carbon design features, and a methanol-ready fuel interface, positioning it to support future decarbonisation initiatives in the maritime sector.
The vessel has already been deployed on trade routes between South America and China, enabling efficient two-way cargo movements. While serving the growing demand for agricultural imports into China, the ship also facilitates the export of Chinese-manufactured industrial equipment, renewable energy components, and advanced technology products.
The introduction of GUO LIANG HAI underscores COSCO SHIPPING’s commitment to enhancing cargo flexibility, improving operational efficiency, and supporting the evolving needs of global trade with more sustainable and future-ready vessel designs.
