    COSCO SHIPPING has officially held the naming ceremony for CHANG PING YUAN, an 88,000 m³ Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) developed to support safer, greener and smarter transportation of liquefied gases.

    Measuring 229.9 metres in length and 32.25 metres in beam, the vessel incorporates advanced technologies aimed at improving operational flexibility, cargo safety and energy efficiency.

    CHANG PING YUAN has the largest cargo capacity among VLGCs capable of transiting both the original and expanded locks of the Panama Canal, providing greater flexibility for global trade routes.

    The vessel is equipped with four Type-A independent cargo tanks and an additional 300 m³ deck tank, effectively serving as a high-capacity floating cold-storage facility while enhancing cargo containment safety.

    For improved environmental performance, the VLGC is powered by an LPG dual-fuel main engine and shaft generator. The propulsion system is designed to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 20%, while cutting SOx and particulate matter emissions by around 90%.

    The vessel also features intelligent fleet-management systems that collect real-time operational data and provide route optimisation recommendations, predictive maintenance alerts and energy-efficiency analytics.

    The addition of CHANG PING YUAN highlights COSCO SHIPPING’s continued fleet modernisation efforts and its focus on technology-driven and sustainable solutions for global energy transportation.
