Customs brokers in Mumbai have urged authorities to take urgent measures to resolve cargo delays at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), warning that operational issues are affecting the smooth movement of import and export shipments.

The brokers have raised concerns over delays in cargo processing and clearance, which can increase turnaround times and add costs for exporters, importers and logistics companies. They have called for faster resolution of operational bottlenecks as cargo activity at the new airport expands.

Efficient cargo handling is particularly important for time-sensitive shipments such as pharmaceuticals, perishables, electronics and high-value goods. Any prolonged delay can disrupt supply chains and increase storage, handling and other logistics costs.

Customs brokers have sought better coordination among customs authorities, cargo terminal operators, airlines, freight forwarders and other stakeholders to streamline clearance procedures. They have also called for adequate infrastructure and systems to handle increasing cargo volumes.

NMIA is expected to play a growing role in Mumbai’s air cargo ecosystem and provide additional capacity alongside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. As more cargo operations shift to the new facility, industry participants are seeking smooth and predictable processes.

The brokers said resolving the current issues quickly would help maintain cargo flow and prevent delays from affecting businesses dependent on air freight.

Industry stakeholders are expected to continue discussions with the relevant authorities to address operational challenges and improve cargo-handling efficiency at NMIA.
