Damen Shipyards Group has unveiled the CFe 1100, a new 1,100-TEU container feeder designed for regional and international shipping, with a focus on fuel efficiency, operational flexibility and future-fuel readiness.
The 150-metre-long vessel features a two-stroke diesel main engine paired with a standard hybrid PTO/PTI system. In PTO mode, the main engine can generate electricity for onboard consumers, including reefer containers, reducing reliance on auxiliary generator sets. The PTI system provides additional electric power for higher speeds and improved manoeuvrability.
The CFe 1100 can accommodate 20-, 30-, 40- and 45-foot containers, with its layout optimised for flexible cargo combinations. Damen lists a capacity of more than 1,100 TEU, while the vessel can carry more than 800 TEU under a homogeneous 14-tonne-per-TEU loading condition. It also has 174 reefer connections and shore-power capability.
The design has been prepared for a potential future conversion to methanol propulsion, with reserved space in the engine room and aft cargo hold for a methanol tank. A dedicated battery room has also been incorporated to enable future energy-storage integration.
Damen has also incorporated Finnish-Swedish Ice Class 1A capability, allowing the feeder to operate in first-year ice up to one metre thick. Optional technologies include the Damen Air Cavity System, shore power and additional propeller and rudder flow-optimisation systems.
The CFe 1100 has an economic speed of around 15 knots, a maximum speed of 17 knots and can reach approximately 18 knots with PTI electric boost. Damen has introduced the vessel as a market design and has not announced an initial customer or construction order.
