Milan-listed product tanker owner and operator d’Amico International Shipping (DIS) has exercised its purchase option on an MR product tanker currently under charter with the company.

The Carlos di Mottola-led firm bought the 2018-built, 49,999 dwt medium-range product tanker High Leader for a consideration of approximately $34.3m. The vessel, built by the Japan Marine United Corporation, will be delivered between the second and third quarters of 2025.

The company added that the price of the vessel, which has been with d’Amico since 2018, is around 26% below its current market value. According to VesselsValue, its regular price is around $46.86m.

This is the second time this month that the company made a similar move as it bought the vessel High Navigator for a reduced price last week.

“This deal follows the exercise of options on five other vessels since the end of 2022 and completes our goal of gradually acquiring our long-term time-charter-in fleet. [This way] DIS has taken ownership of six young and efficient MR vessels, all built by some of the most renowned Japanese shipyards, at purchase prices significantly below their current market value,” Carlos Balestra di Mottola, CEO of d’Amico International Shipping.
