The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has announced a one-time relaxation for the gem and jewellery sector under Chapter 4 of the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, in response to ongoing geopolitical disruptions affecting global trade and logistics.

As per amendments to the Handbook of Procedures 2023, exporters whose re-export, export, or re-import deadlines fall between March 1, 2026 and May 31, 2026 will receive an automatic extension of 30 days from the original date of expiry.

The notification also clarifies that no separate application, fee, or amendment will be required to avail of this benefit. Customs authorities have been directed to allow export and import activities accordingly, subject to verification of relevant details.

The measure is aimed at easing compliance and supporting exporters amid supply chain disruptions linked to geopolitical developments, particularly in West Asia.
