DHL Global Forwarding Singapore is set to establish a dedicated healthcare logistics facility at Singapore Changi Airport, strengthening the company’s ability to handle high-value, time and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and life sciences cargo across the Asia-Pacific region.
The new DHL Singapore Coldchain Hub will be located at Changi Nexus One within the Changi Airfreight Centre. The facility is targeted for completion by the end of 2027 and will cover 3,047 square metres.
GDP-Compliant Cold Chain Facility
The hub will be designed in accordance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards and will support healthcare shipments requiring controlled temperatures of 2°C to 8°C and 15°C to 25°C.
It will feature GDP-qualified cold rooms, real-time temperature monitoring and direct airside connectivity. Dedicated temperature-controlled transfer solutions will enable cargo to move from aircraft to the DHL facility and onward to customers’ warehouses while maintaining an uninterrupted cold chain.
Strengthening Singapore’s Healthcare Logistics Role
The facility will leverage Changi Airport’s extensive international connectivity and specialised cargo infrastructure to support pharmaceutical and life sciences shipments moving through Singapore and across Asia-Pacific.
Changi Airport already has more than 9,000 square metres of airside-fronting temperature-controlled handling capacity, supporting more than 375,000 tonnes annually, alongside airside thermal protection solutions such as cool dollies.
Changi Nexus One itself offers close to 8,000 square metres of warehousing space and direct apron connectivity, enabling faster cargo transfers between aircraft and logistics facilities.
Investment Driven by Healthcare Growth
DHL said the new hub forms part of its broader €2 billion investment in DHL Health Logistics under its Strategy 2030, aimed at expanding infrastructure, specialised capabilities and solutions for the life sciences and healthcare sector.
The company expects demand for specialised cold-chain logistics in Asia-Pacific to rise as the region sees increasing volumes of biologics, specialty medicines and other temperature sensitive healthcare products.
Singapore’s pharmaceutical cold-chain market is projected to grow at around 7% annually, with volumes expected to increase from 14 million kg in 2028 to 17 million kg by 2031, according to figures cited by DHL.
The new Coldchain Hub is therefore expected to enhance DHL’s ability to provide secure, compliant and temperature-controlled air freight solutions while further strengthening Singapore’s position as a regional healthcare logistics gateway.
