New York-listed Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping is selling its second ship this year after having struck a deal with an unnamed buyer for one of its nine capesizes.
The Semiramis Paliou-led company, which saw net income drop to $9.4m in Q4 2023 from $25.7m in the corresponding period of 2022, is shipping out the 2009-built Houston for $23.3m.
Diana said the 177,729 dwt ship, currently on charter with EGPN Bulk Carrier through to July 1 and August 31 at $13,000 per day, should exit the currently 41-strong fleet by September.
In January, Diana sold its 2006-built panamax Artemis for $13m and for exit in March. It also recently firmed up its contract for a pair of methanol dual-fuel kamsarmax newbuilds delivering in 2027 and 2028.
Despite higher asking prices for secondhand capes, brokers have recorded over 50 ships changing hands between October 2023 and February 2024, with more than 20 sales this year alone.
