DP World has renewed its long-term contract with Hapag-Lloyd, to continue container handling operations at the Port of Santos for the next 10 years.

The agreement confirms the ongoing partnership between the two companies and secures operational continuity at one of Brazil’s busiest ports.

“This contract ensures the continuity of container handling operations for the next 10 years,” the companies said in a joint statement.

In response to growing demand, DP World is advancing its port capacity expansion plan.

The project aims to increase terminal throughput and accommodate additional maritime services for Hapag-Lloyd, while maintaining efficient and sustainable operations for other shipping lines.

DP World emphasised that the expansion would reinforce its position as “an independent and competitive terminal at the Port of Santos.”

For Hapag-Lloyd, the renewed contract provides a robust foundation to expand its presence in the Brazilian market.

The shipping line highlighted the deal’s role in ensuring “predictability and efficiency in the development of its business in the region.”

Alongside infrastructure development, DP World is investing in new container handling equipment.

The terminal’s capacity is expected to increase to 1.7 million TEUs per year by 2026, establishing DP World Santos as one of Brazil’s most modern private multipurpose terminals.

These investments and commitments position both DP World and Hapag-Lloyd to support increasing trade flows and evolving market demands at the Port of Santos well into the future.

Last month, Hapag-Lloyd has signed a multi-year agreement with Shell Western LNG B.V. for the supply of liquefied biomethane (Bio-LNG), effective immediately.
