DP World has completed the dredging phase of the Port of Ndayane project, marking a major milestone in the development of Senegal’s next-generation deep-water port. The achievement paves the way for the next stages of construction and brings the strategically important maritime hub closer to becoming operational.
The completed dredging works have created the required navigation channel and harbour basin depth to accommodate large container vessels, significantly enhancing the port’s future handling capacity. The infrastructure is expected to improve vessel access, reduce turnaround times, and support the growing demand for containerised and general cargo in West Africa.
The Port of Ndayane is being developed as a modern logistics gateway with advanced container terminals, extensive storage facilities, and multimodal transport links. Once operational, it will complement Senegal’s existing port infrastructure while strengthening the country’s role as a regional trade and transshipment hub.
DP World said the project is designed to boost supply chain efficiency, facilitate international trade, and support long-term economic growth by attracting new shipping services and private investment. The port is also expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs during construction and operation, contributing to regional industrial development.
The completion of dredging represents a significant step toward delivering one of West Africa’s largest port infrastructure projects. With construction progressing on marine and landside facilities, the Port of Ndayane is expected to enhance connectivity for global shipping lines, improve cargo capacity, and reinforce Senegal’s position in international maritime trade.
