Emirates SkyCargo is exploring plans to expand its operations in Kerala to strengthen international cargo connectivity and boost exports from the state. The development follows a meeting between representatives of the cargo division of Emirates and Kerala Industries Minister P. K. Kunhalikutty to discuss new business opportunities and expand existing cooperation.
According to the minister, Emirates SkyCargo is already working with Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE), which operates under the state’s Industries Department. The latest discussions focused on building on this partnership to increase export volumes and improve access to overseas markets.
The delegation was led by Emirates SkyCargo India Head Amir Al Zarouni and included Alasia Saeed and Denisa Rivera. The meeting explored ways to help products from Kerala reach international customers faster through stronger cargo and logistics links.
Focus on expanding Kerala’s exports
The proposed expansion could benefit exporters seeking reliable air freight services to transport time-sensitive and high-value goods. Kerala’s export sectors, including seafood, spices, fresh produce, pharmaceuticals and other specialised products, could benefit from improved access to international markets, depending on the services and capacity made available.
Emirates SkyCargo operates an extensive global network through its Dubai hub, connecting Indian exporters with markets across the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas. The carrier transported more than 153,000 tonnes of Indian exports during the 2025–26 financial year, highlighting its role in supporting India’s international trade.
Strengthening air cargo and logistics
Closer cooperation between KSIE and Emirates SkyCargo could help businesses identify new export opportunities and improve the movement of goods through international supply chains. Better cargo connectivity may also support small and medium-sized enterprises seeking to expand their overseas customer base.
The minister expressed confidence that expanded cooperation would contribute to growth in Kerala’s cargo and export sectors.
However, specific details regarding additional cargo capacity, new routes, investment commitments and implementation timelines have not yet been announced. The discussions mark a step towards strengthening Kerala’s integration with global air freight networks and widening export opportunities for businesses across the state.
