Evergreen Marine and Pacific International Lines (PIL) have announced a new joint shipping service connecting the Far East with South Africa, strengthening trade links between Asia and the African continent. The new Far East–South Africa Express Service is designed to offer faster transit times, improved schedule reliability and added capacity for growing bilateral cargo demand.

The service will connect major ports in China and Southeast Asia with key South African gateways, supporting shipments of manufactured goods, consumer products, machinery and raw materials. By combining vessel resources, both carriers aim to enhance frequency and network coverage on an increasingly important trade lane.

Shipping lines have been expanding Africa-focused services as import demand, retail distribution and industrial investment rise across the region. South Africa remains a strategic hub for regional cargo flows, serving as a gateway to neighboring inland markets and wider Sub-Saharan trade networks.

Industry observers say the new partnership reflects continued carrier interest in diversifying global routes beyond traditional east-west trades. For shippers, the service is expected to provide greater flexibility, competitive transit options and stronger supply chain resilience between Asia and southern Africa.
