Ferry and cargo services are being planned to maintain connectivity and support the movement of passengers and goods following the closure of Bihar’s Vikramshila Setu.
The bridge, a major road link across the Ganga, handles significant passenger and commercial traffic between Bhagalpur and surrounding areas. Its closure is expected to disrupt normal road movement and increase pressure on alternative transport routes.
To minimise the impact on commuters and businesses, authorities are arranging ferry services as an alternative for passenger movement. Cargo operations are also being planned to support the transportation of essential goods and commercial consignments during the closure period.
The additional services are expected to provide an alternative link across the river and help maintain supply-chain movement between areas on either side of the Ganga. Transport operators and local businesses are likely to rely on these services for moving goods that would otherwise have travelled across the bridge.
The arrangements are particularly important for agricultural commodities, construction materials, consumer goods and other time-sensitive cargo moving through the region. Maintaining regular cargo movement will help reduce potential disruptions to local markets and supply chains.
Authorities are also expected to monitor traffic and service demand as the closure continues, with ferry capacity and cargo operations adjusted according to requirements.
The Vikramshila Setu is an important transport corridor in eastern Bihar, connecting Bhagalpur with areas including Naugachia and northern parts of the state. Its closure has therefore created the need for alternative transportation arrangements until normal road connectivity is restored.
The planned ferry and cargo services are expected to provide temporary support to passenger and freight movement and help limit the wider economic impact of the bridge closure.
