The Ghaziabad–New Moradabad railway route is set for expansion with the addition of third and fourth railway lines, aimed at increasing capacity and improving the movement of passenger and freight trains along the busy corridor.
The project will add two additional tracks to the existing rail infrastructure, allowing more trains to operate without being constrained by the capacity of the current lines. The expansion is expected to support growing traffic demand across the route.
The Ghaziabad–New Moradabad section forms part of an important rail corridor connecting the National Capital Region with western Uttar Pradesh and further towards northern and eastern markets. It also carries significant freight traffic, including containers, agricultural commodities, industrial materials and other goods.
Additional tracks will provide greater operational flexibility for Indian Railways. Freight trains can be handled more efficiently while passenger services can operate with fewer conflicts between different types of traffic.
The expansion is also expected to improve the reliability of freight movement by reducing congestion and enabling better scheduling of trains. This could benefit industries and logistics operators that depend on rail for long-distance transportation.
The project comes amid wider efforts by Indian Railways to expand capacity on high-density routes and strengthen rail infrastructure supporting economic and industrial activity. Increasing track capacity is particularly important on corridors where passenger and freight traffic share the same network.
Once completed, the additional lines are expected to provide greater capacity for future traffic growth and improve connectivity between major logistics and consumption centres.
The Ghaziabad–New Moradabad expansion will therefore strengthen an important rail link in northern India while supporting more efficient passenger and freight movement along the corridor.
