A freight train carrying stones derailed early Wednesday at the Kayasthagram railway crossing, causing major disruption along the crucial Assam–Tripura National Highway 8 corridor. The incident brought vehicular movement to a standstill, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded on both sides of the crossing.

Local authorities reported that the highway—an essential route for inter-state travel and goods transportation—remained completely blocked for nearly an hour. Motorists and passengers caught in the traffic jam described growing distress as vehicles were trapped with no immediate relief in sight.

Railway and highway teams are currently working at the site to remove the derailed train and restore safe passage. The cause of the derailment has not yet been officially determined.

Officials have advised commuters to exercise patience as clearance operations continue, and traffic is expected to resume gradually once the area is secured.
