At least 13 coal-laden wagons of a freight train derailed near Vrindavan Road Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district on Tuesday night, severely affecting rail traffic along the busy Delhi-Mumbai corridor.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. between Vrindavan Road and Ajhai stations, which fall under the Mathura-Palwal section of the Agra Rail Division. No casualties or injuries were reported.

Agra Division PRO Prashasti Srivastava said that three out of the four railway tracks were impacted due to the derailment. “Initially, both Delhi-Jhansi and Jhansi-Delhi tracks were affected by this incident. But now, the line towards Delhi has been restored while the Jhansi-bound track remains non-operational. Our teams are at the site,” Srivastava told The Times of India.

The derailment disrupted the movement of several key trains, including the Khajuraho–Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat Express and the Rani Kamlapati–New Delhi Shatabdi Express.

SHO Government Railway Police (GRP) Mathura Junction, Yadram Singh, confirmed that all crew members were safe. “No casualties have been reported and the onboard crew is unharmed,” he said.

Restoration work was underway late into the night, with railway officials mobilizing cranes and engineering teams to clear the affected tracks and resume normal train operations on the vital route.
