Union Minister for Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy and Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated India’s first swappable battery heavy-duty electric trucks and a swap-cum-charging station on Wednesday in Sonepat, Haryana.

According to Kumaraswamy, the swappable battery technology allows electric truck batteries to be replaced in about seven minutes, compared with the two hours required for conventional charging.

The faster turnaround is expected to enhance logistics efficiency, reduce operational costs, and lower emissions.

Kumaraswamy described the project as a milestone in India’s transition towards clean mobility and a step forward in strengthening the country’s leadership in sustainable transport solutions.

The initiative aims to promote energy efficiency in logistics and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of achieving energy independence by 2047 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
