The leadership of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, India’s biggest warship builder, is back with the Indian Navy after a hiatus of more than two years with the government picking Captain Jagmohan (Indian Navy Retired) for the role of Chairman and Managing Director.

Captain Jagmohan is currently Director (Corporate Planning, Projects and Business Development) at Goa Shipyard Ltd, a defence shipbuilder administered by the Ministry of Defence.

Captain Jagmohan’s tenure as CMD, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, will run through September 30, 2029 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, according to an April 17 order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the proposal submitted by the Department of Defence Production.

Mumbai-listed Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders has been without a full-time CMD after Vice Admiral Narayan Prasad, Indian Navy (Retd), superannuated on January 31, 2023.

Since then, Sanjeev Singhal, the company’s Director (Finance), was entrusted with the additional charge of CMD by the Ministry of Defence which controls Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, till his superannuation on February 28, 2025.

Biju George, Director (Shipbuilding), was given the additional charge of CMD, after Singhal stepped down.

Capt Jagmohan described himself as “skilled in Finite Element Analysis, Naval Architecture, Military Maintenance, Warship Acquisition and Design” on his LinkedIn profile. He did his Master’s thesis focussed on ‘Effect of Welding on Corrosion’ from RWTH Aachen University, Germany and engineering degree in naval architecture and shipbuilding from the Cochin University of Science and Technology.

Previously, Capt Jagmohan served as Chief General Manager (Design), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd, also a defence shipyard.

Prior to that, he was Director Naval Design at the Directorate of Naval Design, Indian Navy.
