Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has inaugurated a new inland port facility aimed at improving regional trade connectivity and expanding access to global markets for inland customers.

The inland port is designed to provide seamless intermodal connectivity between interior regions and GPA’s coastal terminals, enabling faster and more efficient cargo movement. By integrating rail and road networks with port operations, the facility will help reduce transit times and ease congestion at seaports.

Officials said the new inland port will serve as a strategic logistics hub, allowing exporters and importers to move containers closer to their production or distribution centres. This is expected to lower transportation costs and enhance supply chain reliability.

The development forms part of GPA’s broader expansion strategy to extend its reach beyond coastal areas and tap into growing demand from inland markets. It also supports efforts to promote multimodal logistics and improve overall freight efficiency.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that inland ports play a critical role in decentralising cargo flows and strengthening trade infrastructure. The facility is expected to boost regional economic activity by improving access for manufacturers, agricultural producers, and distribution networks.

With increasing cargo volumes and evolving supply chain dynamics, GPA’s inland port initiative is seen as a key step toward building a more resilient and integrated logistics ecosystem.
