India’s journey towards becoming one of the top five shipbuilding nations by 2047 received a significant boost at the launch of the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ Mission, inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Saturday. The event, held at Bhavnagar, marks a key milestone in the implementation of the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision, aimed at revitalising India’s shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure.
A central highlight of the event was the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) with several strategic partners across the shipbuilding, port, and infrastructure sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director, GRSE, stated, “We at GRSE are proud to be a part of this historic programme launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to revitalise India’s shipbuilding sector and realise the ambition of positioning India among the world’s top five shipbuilding nations by 2047. The MoUs signed today represent a concrete step towards creating an ecosystem where shipyards, ports, operators, and infrastructure partners work in unison.”
Cmde Hari emphasized GRSE’s commitment to building sustainable, green, and globally competitive solutions, supporting the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the Maritime Amrit Kaal.
The MoUs were formally signed by Cmde A Vinith, IN (Retd.), Chief General Manager, GRSE, with the following organisations:
Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla
Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA), Kolkata
Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited (IPRCL)
The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI)
Modest Infrastructure Private Limited (MIPL)
These agreements lay the groundwork for joint development across several strategic domains, including:
Construction of green and low-emission vessels
Ship repair and maintenance
Building green tugs compliant with GTTP (Green Tug Transition Programme) specifications
Development of port infrastructure, jetties, and berths
Advancing multimodal logistics and last-mile connectivity
Execution of civil, rail, and ropeway infrastructure for ports and terminals
The collaborative framework aims to foster synergy between public and private sector players and ensure India’s maritime sector is globally competitive, technologically advanced, and environmentally sustainable.
