Global Ship Lease, Inc. announced the purchase of three 8,600 TEU Korean-built containerships with ECO upgrades for a total of $90 million, according to the company’s statement.
The vessels, built in 2010/2011, come with attached charters from a leading liner company at below-market rates and with flexible durations, with the latest redeliveries in mid-2030. If the charters run to full term, they are expected to generate approximately $88 million in aggregate revenues, while the ships’ combined scrap value at a through-cycle scrap price of $400 per LWT is estimated at about $40 million.
After the acquisition, the company’s fleet will total 71 vessels with a combined capacity of 422,567 TEU. The newly acquired vessels are expected to be delivered around year-end 2025, and Global Ship Lease plans to initially fund the deal with cash on hand, with the option to arrange financing later.
Global Ship Lease, Inc. is incorporated in the Marshall Islands and operates as an independent owner and lessor of containerships. The company began operations in December 2007 with the objective of acquiring and chartering containerships under fixed-rate agreements. As of September 30, 2025, its fleet consisted of 69 vessels with an average age of 18.0 years on a TEU-weighted basis, including 39 wide-beam Post-Panamax ships.
