GT Lines, the shipping arm of Gulftainer, is expanding its regional network with a new direct container service connecting Khorfakkan in the United Arab Emirates with Berbera in Somaliland. The Khorfakkan Berbera Express (KBX) is scheduled to commence operations in November 2026, offering sailings every 14 days.

The service will operate on a straightforward rotation between Khorfakkan and Berbera, providing shippers with a direct maritime link between the UAE and the Horn of Africa. The launch is expected to strengthen regional trade connectivity and create additional options for businesses moving containerised cargo between the two markets.

Connecting Berbera to a Wider Feeder Network

Through the new service, customers shipping via Berbera will gain access to GT Lines’ wider feeder network through Khorfakkan. The connection also offers links to the broader logistics infrastructure and services available within the Gulftainer network.

Khorfakkan serves as an important gateway for regional shipping, with GT Lines operating services linking the UAE with markets across the Gulf, India, Pakistan and China. The new route will extend the company’s reach into the Horn of Africa and provide another connection for regional cargo flows.

The KBX service is part of GT Lines’ efforts to expand its shipping network and improve connectivity between key regional markets. Its 14-day frequency will give customers a scheduled option for planning container movements between the UAE and Berbera.

    Operational Details Awaited

GT Lines has announced the planned launch month and sailing frequency, but has not yet disclosed the exact date of the first sailing or the vessels assigned to the service.

The new connection is expected to support trade opportunities between the UAE and Somaliland while improving Berbera’s access to wider regional shipping connections. Its operational performance and commercial uptake will become clearer once the service begins.
