The Gujarat government has unveiled a comprehensive shipbuilding incentive policy aimed at transforming the state into a leading maritime manufacturing hub. The policy offers long-term concessions of up to 50 years for shipbuilding projects and seeks to attract investments worth approximately ₹27,000 crore over the coming years.
Designed to strengthen India’s shipbuilding ecosystem, the policy provides incentives for the development of shipyards, repair facilities, and associated maritime infrastructure. It also aims to encourage private sector participation, generate employment, and boost the state’s industrial competitiveness in the global maritime sector.
The initiative aligns with the Centre’s broader vision of expanding domestic shipbuilding capacity and reducing reliance on overseas yards. By offering extended land leases, streamlined approvals, and investor-friendly incentives, Gujarat hopes to attract both domestic and international shipbuilders while promoting technological innovation and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Industry stakeholders expect the policy to accelerate capacity expansion, support ancillary industries, and enhance India’s position in global shipbuilding and ship repair markets. The move is also expected to complement the country’s ambitions under Maritime India Vision 2030 by strengthening coastal infrastructure and increasing the contribution of the maritime sector to economic growth.
