German carrier Hapag-Lloyd and UK-based operator Ellerman City Liners have commenced direct vessel calls at the Port of Riga, enhancing connectivity to the Baltic region.

The new calls are aimed at strengthening trade links between Northern Europe and key international markets, offering shippers improved transit times and expanded routing options. The development is expected to benefit exporters and importers across Latvia and neighbouring countries.

Port officials welcomed the move, noting that the addition of services by major carriers will boost container throughput and reinforce Riga’s role as a strategic gateway in the Baltic Sea region.

The collaboration reflects ongoing efforts by shipping lines to optimize networks and expand port coverage in response to evolving trade flows and customer demand.
