    Hapag-Lloyd has announced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments to Mombasa, Kenya and Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, reflecting the seasonal surge in demand and capacity constraints.

    For cargo loaded from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, and Pakistan, the surcharge will apply from 15 November 2025.

    The PSS is set at $600 per 20-foot container and $950 per 40-foot container, applicable to dry, special, and reefer cargo.

    For cargo loaded from the Americas, the surcharge takes effect from 6 December 2025, with the same rates of $600 per 20-foot container and $950 per 40-foot container.

    For shipments from Asia and Oceania, the PSS applies to all cargo loaded on or after 16 November 2025 and will remain in effect until further notice. The surcharge is $600 per TEU for all container types.

    These surcharges are designed to manage peak-season demand and ensure reliable service to East African ports.

    Shippers should take the PSS into account when planning costs for cargo to Kenya and Tanzania.

    Recently, Hapag-Lloyd marked 10 years since its initial public offering on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
