Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has signed the ‘Hamburg Declaration on the Decarbonisation of Global Shipping’, intending to progress the decarbonisation of international shipping.
On 7 October and 8 October, approximately 1,600 individuals from over 100 nations will gather in Hamburg to work on a variety of future concerns in over 60 sessions.
The subjects covered include hydrogen supply chains for global transportation, fair raw material sourcing for battery manufacture, and a fair international financial architecture.
Angela Titzrath, CEO of HHLA, signed the proclamation for ecologically sustainable shipping in Hamburg.
Titzrath said: “We are pleased, as an important part of the logistics network, to be involved in the initiative and to jointly promote sustainable solutions.”
HHLA has already fully integrated sustainable practices into its business model: the goal is to cut HHLA’s CO2 emissions by at least 50 per cent by 2030, with the ultimate goal of attaining climate-neutral output across the Group by 2040.
By the end of 2023, HHLA reportedly decreased its CO2 emissions by roughly 40 per cent from the 2018 baseline.
In August, HHLA reported that it ended the first half of 2024 with good revenue and profitability numbers.
