Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has advanced its expansion plans by shortlisting two candidate sites for the development of a new shipyard in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed facility is expected to strengthen India’s shipbuilding capacity and support the country’s long-term maritime and defence objectives.

The shortlisted locations are being evaluated based on factors such as coastal accessibility, water depth, land availability, infrastructure connectivity, and environmental considerations. Detailed feasibility studies and technical assessments will determine the final site for the project.

The new shipyard is expected to enhance HSL’s capability to build and repair a wider range of commercial and naval vessels while meeting the growing demand for shipbuilding and maintenance services. It will also complement the government’s efforts to promote self-reliance in the maritime sector under the broader vision of expanding domestic shipbuilding capacity.

The project is anticipated to attract significant investment, generate employment opportunities, and support the development of ancillary industries in the region. Improved shipbuilding infrastructure is also expected to strengthen India’s position in the global maritime industry and boost export potential.

Once the site selection process is completed and statutory approvals are secured, HSL is expected to move forward with the project’s detailed planning and implementation, marking another step toward expanding the country’s shipbuilding ecosystem.
