In light of the Panchayat elections in West Bengal, all import-export operations at the Sonamasjid land port in Chapainawabganj will remain suspended on Saturday.

The matter was confirmed on Friday through a letter signed by Prasenjit Ghosh, general secretary of Mahadipur Exporters’ Association of West Bengal’s Malda district.

However, Panama-Sonamasjid Port Link Limited will remain open, allowing passport holders to travel between Bangladesh and India through the port’s immigration checkpoint, it said.

The import-export activities at the port will resume from Sunday, the letter added.

Sonamasjid land port’s C&F Agent Association President Ismail Hossain and Panama-Sonamasjid Port Link Limited Manager (Operation) Kamal Uddin confirmed the receipt of the letter and said import-export activities between Sonamasjid port and India will remain suspended on that day.

However, regular port activities, including cargo handling, will continue as usual, they added.
