The second Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC) meant for Assam based Numaligarh Refinery expansion project reached Dhubri Terminal.

Second ODC/OWC 700 MT Cargo meant for Numaligarh Refinery expansion project is being transported by cargo vessel MV Tidal Wave IV has reached IWAI Dhubri Terminal on NW-2 (River Brahmaputra) on Friday. The successful passage of ODC/OWC for NRL project is proving the utility of National Waterways – 2 (river Brahmaputra) as an alternative mode of transportation which is cost effective, efficient, & environment friendly.

Earlier, the first ODC for Numaligarh was received by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Numaligarh Refinery jetty. NRL entered an MoU with Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) to ferry ODC/OWC for the expansion project of NRL. capacity from 3 MMT to 9 MMT.

The MoU to transport a total of 24 ODC as well as Over Weight Cargo (OWC) for NRL was signed between IWAI and NRL last year in presence of Sonowal last year.

Sonowal earlier stated, “This is the true realisation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s vision of transformation via transportation. While Modi ji’s commitment to enable Numaligarh to become an energy hub in the region, its capacity expansion in a relatively short duration of time would not have been possible without the smooth transportation of as many as 24 ODC & OWC meant for NRL expansion. Given the thrust to empower the waterways of India, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister, our ministry took it upon to make this transport happen in a swift and smooth manner.”
