India is targeting a doubling of its exports to the European Union over the next three to four years, supported by the India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), according to a government official.
The proposed trade pact is expected to create greater market access for Indian exporters and strengthen trade ties with the European bloc.
The agreement could provide opportunities for Indian businesses across a range of sectors by improving access to the EU market and reducing trade barriers. Export-oriented industries are expected to benefit from greater tariff certainty and improved conditions for accessing European markets.
The government has been focusing on expanding India’s export footprint through trade agreements and deeper economic engagement with major markets. The EU, as one of India’s key trading partners, remains an important destination for Indian goods and services.
Officials expect the FTA to support higher export volumes by improving the competitiveness of Indian products in European markets and encouraging businesses to explore new opportunities.
The targeted export expansion will depend on the implementation of the agreement, utilisation of market access by Indian exporters and broader demand conditions in the European market.
The government’s three- to four-year export objective underscores the expected role of the India–EU FTA in strengthening bilateral trade and supporting India’s broader export growth strategy.
